“She’s absurd,” critics hurl vile insults at Emma Raducanu.

The dynamic between Emma Raducanu and a certain faction of tennis enthusiasts is incredibly complex. Following each of her matches, she is subjected to a barrage of hateful and venomous comments from social media users who have formed a toxic following of detractors for the young British athlete.

Emma is putting forth considerable effort, but she is struggling significantly to regain her form. Since her triumph in the 2021 US Open, where she was ranked No. 10, she has faced immense pressure, injuries, and numerous distractions off the court. Many believe that her victory was merely a stroke of luck, and there seems to be little optimism about her resurgence, despite her recent statements.

I’d like to address anyone who still entertains or supports this notion: winning a Grand Slam is never a fluke. When someone wins a Grand Slam, it’s solely due to their own merit. Let’s put a stop to this.

While one may have a favorable draw or be in peak mental and physical condition, they still have to defeat their opponents over the course of two weeks, or even three, considering Emma’s journey from the qualifiers. Thus, anyone who triumphs in a Grand Slam does so because they’ve earned it.

Raducanu mentioned that she has been undergoing intense training in an attempt to make a comeback, but unfortunately, her efforts have not been yielding positive results.

Additionally, at the WTA 1000 in Doha, Raducanu experienced a setback when she suffered a collapse after playing for one hour and thirty-nine minutes against Russian opponent Angelina Kalinina. The match was one-sided, with Raducanu losing 6-0; 7-6(6).

Emma possesses the entitlement to participate in matches, to achieve victories, to face defeats, and to relish life, just like any other individual.

Emma had a rough start to the match, and although she attempted to bounce back in the second set, her efforts proved futile, ultimately leading to her defeat. Following the match, Raducanu voiced her grievances, attributing her loss to various factors such as the timing, the sun, or the challenge of playing outdoors.

These remarks didn’t sit well with numerous fans, who found humor in the defeat.

“I honestly felt like I couldn’t get into the rhythm of the match. It’s a combination of factors that contributed to this outcome. It’s been a while since I’ve played a daytime match, and I believe I need more outdoor practice because the conditions are quite distinct. It’s truly challenging to track the ball in these circumstances, and I wasn’t prepared for that,” Emma stated.

Raducanu’s detractors heavily criticized the British player’s statements, labeling them as an absurd string of excuses.

“I’ve never heard such a long list of excuses from a professional tennis player before. It’s difficult to justify the 48 unforced errors,” remarked one of the numerous posts targeting the young British athlete.

As I’ve mentioned previously, Emma is entitled to compete, succeed, falter, and find joy in life, just like anyone else. Is it truly so challenging for the detractors to comprehend?
