Emma Raducanu has garnered considerable acclaim following her comeback to the court this year.
Tennis analyst Mark Petchey suggests that Emma Raducanu, now back to full fitness, has the potential to secure ‘multiple Grand Slam’ victories. Despite a year marred by injuries in 2023, the 21-year-old is aiming to reignite her career on this year’s tour.
After her triumph at the US Open in 2021, Raducanu faced challenges in maintaining the momentum she gained at Flushing Meadows. Persistent injuries and inconsistent performances led to doubts about whether the British player could sustain her competitiveness at the highest level.
Raducanu underwent surgical procedures on both her wrists and ankle last year before making her comeback to the court. The former world No. 10 has participated in seven matches this year, winning three and losing four, and is gradually rediscovering her form.
Numerous former players have commended Raducanu’s comeback, with Petchey among those expressing optimism about her prospects following her surgeries. He remarked to The i newspaper, “She is displaying good movement.”
“She’s arguably among the top athletes currently on the tour. Her movement is exceptional, and it’s an aspect we perhaps don’t emphasize sufficiently. When her game is on point, her athleticism complements it perfectly,” remarked the ex-world No. 80.
Personally, I hope to witness greater consistency within her team. However, one thing I can attest to about Emma is the unwavering dedication she displayed during the ten months I spent with her. There wasn’t a day, not even a minute, where she didn’t fully commit herself. Every instance she struck a tennis ball, she gave it her all, without hesitation.”
