Following six seasons overseeing the kicking game for the New England Patriots, Cam Achord is set to transition to the NFC East.
The New York Giants are reportedly set to bring in the 37-year-old as an assistant coach, as per a report from Jordan Raanan of ESPN on Friday.
Upon his arrival in Foxborough in 2018, Achord climbed the ranks and assumed the role of special teams coordinator in 2020 following Joe Judge’s departure to East Rutherford. He continued in that capacity through the 2021 season, which saw the team finish with a 4-13 record, ranking 28th in DVOA and 13th in Rick Gosselin’s annual rankings.
In February, Jeremy Springer was appointed as New England’s new special teams coordinator under head coach Jerod Mayo. Additionally, the organization has brought on board special teams assistant coach Tom Quinn and Coby Tippett as a special teams coaching assistant and quality control coach.
Achord is set to join the staff of Giants head coach Brian Daboll, filling a vacancy left by the previous special teams assistant, Mike Adams, who moved to the role of assistant secondary coach.
Before venturing into the NFL, Achord, an alum of Belhaven University, pursued his master’s degree at Southern Miss while working as a graduate assistant from 2010 to 2012.
He then spent the following five years at Southwest Mississippi Community College, concluding his tenure in 2017 with roles including offensive coordinator, special teams coordinator, quarterbacks coach, running backs coach, and tight ends coach.
