For many years, Seattle Seahawks fans witnessed K.J. Wright contributing to victories over the San Francisco 49ers.
Now, Wright will be instrumental in extending the Niners’ recent dominance over the Seahawks and the NFC West division.
The former Seahawks linebacker, known for his role in the ‘Legion of Boom’ defense and Seattle’s Super Bowl triumph in the 2013 season, revealed on his podcast ‘KJ All Day’ that he’s joining the 49ers’ coaching staff.
Wright has been appointed as the 49ers’ assistant linebackers coach/defensive quality control coach.
Expressing his excitement, Wright stated, “I am thoroughly excited, I am really really happy for this opportunity, I’m really, really happy for the Niners organization believing in me, trusting me with their franchise.”
Having competed against the 49ers since his debut NFL game, Wright acknowledges the significance of now coaching for them. However, for Seahawks fans, seeing Wright, who retired from Seattle in 2022, coaching against their team might be challenging, given the 49ers’ recent success.
San Francisco, who represented the NFC in the recent Super Bowl, has won the last five matchups against the Seahawks, with an average margin of victory of 15 points.
As Wright joins the 49ers’ coaching staff, he aims to contribute to extending this winning streak in 2024, working with standout linebacker Fred Warner.
While Seahawks fans have seen franchise legends join division rivals before, such as Richard Sherman to the 49ers in 2018, the sight of Wright on the 49ers’ sideline will still be an adjustment.
