Roosters provide update on injuries for two forwards…

The Sydney Roosters have confirmed that Sitili Tupouniua has undergone scans on his left groin following his departure from the field during the Round 1 victory over the Brisbane Broncos in Las Vegas. Siua Wong, however, has been given the all-clear from any significant injury.

Tupouniua reported discomfort in his left groin and was substituted early in the second half as a precautionary measure. Although the club doesn’t suspect a serious injury, Tupouniua, who returned to competitive rugby league after missing most of the 2023 season due to an ACL injury, will undergo further assessment as a precaution.

The versatile forward, who typically plays as an edge forward but has also seen time at lock during the preseason due to the Roosters’ depth in second-rowers, may see more time in that position as the season progresses.

At this point, it remains uncertain whether Tupouniua will recover in time for availability next weekend. In contrast, Wong sustained an injury late in the second half.

The Roosters have assessed Wong’s condition and ruled out any serious injury. They have confirmed that the promising young player, who made a significant impact in an elimination final against the Cronulla Sharks last year, will be ready for the Roosters’ Round 2 encounter with the Manly Sea Eagles.

Wong, who started in the second-row during Round 1 and has received commendations within the Roosters’ team, is expected to maintain that position for much of the season.

Following Round 1, the Roosters have reported no additional injury concerns as they prepare for their extended break to return from Las Vegas before Round 2.
