Breaking News: The Sydney Roosters have expressed renewed interest in keeping a key player…

The Roosters are actively seeking ways to keep Joseph Suaalii on their roster despite his existing $4.5 million rugby union contract, especially given Joey Manu’s upcoming move to French rugby. Neil Breen revealed on 2GB radio that the Roosters are putting in considerable effort to secure Suaalii’s future with the club amidst ongoing speculation. He outlined the strategic considerations surrounding Suaalii’s potential return to rugby league, especially in light of Manu’s imminent departure.

Breen emphasized the Roosters’ dedication to retaining Suaalii, stating, “It’s about Joseph Suaalii, and I can tell you for a fact that the Roosters are working overtime to keep him at the club.” He pointed out Manu’s move to French rugby and the aging of James Tedesco as factors influencing the Roosters’ pursuit of Suaalii.

While acknowledging the complexities of existing contracts, Breen stressed the Roosters’ persistence in exploring options to keep Suaalii in the team.

“The challenge could arise if his management argues to rugby that if they are now considering releasing us from this contract, there must be some form of compensation since we have already committed to the deal,” he explained.

Breen also highlighted the broader ramifications across both rugby codes, with rugby league clubs showing interest in players from rugby union.

“These players are frustrated by the whole situation where someone is transitioning to rugby and earning such a significant amount,” he observed, pointing out potential dissatisfaction among players like Jordan Petaia.

“And I can disclose that one club interested in him is the Dragons, as they are looking to recruit players,” he added.
