In anticipation of his imminent comeback, Sydney Roosters powerhouse Jared Waerea-Hargreaves has demonstrated his readiness by putting in a solid 30-minute performance in the NSW Cup.
Waerea-Hargreaves’ impending return comes at an opportune moment for the Roosters’ forward line, particularly with Spencer Leniu facing a judiciary hearing on Monday. Leniu is potentially looking at a six to eight-week suspension after an incident in his debut game for the club, where he confessed to making derogatory remarks towards Brisbane’s Ezra Mam during a heated Round 1 clash in Las Vegas.
Showing solidarity with Leniu, ‘JWH’ praised him for owning up to his actions and issuing a public apology.
“We’re all behind him,” remarked Waerea-Hargreaves in a show of support for his teammate.
For most teams, the departure of a forward with three premiership titles would be a significant blow, but the Roosters’ ability to welcome back Waerea-Hargreaves showcases their impressive depth.
In the meantime, fellow teammate Michael Jennings has voiced his ambition to return to the NRL at the age of 35. After an absence of 1253 days, he made a noteworthy comeback, playing the entire 80 minutes at left centre.
Despite encountering substantial obstacles during his time away, including a doping suspension and a legal dispute, Jennings remains resolute in his pursuit of a return to the NRL.
Recalling his conversations with coach Trent Robinson regarding an unexpected chance to rejoin the Tri-colours, Jennings highlighted personal pride and family influence as key motivators.
Currently under a train-and-trial arrangement, Jennings has reaffirmed his innocence regarding previous controversies and emphasized his commitment. With almost 300 NRL matches behind him, Jennings’ priorities have shifted away from financial gain towards motivating his children and demonstrating perseverance.
