Collingwood sensation Nick Daicos, just three years into his AFL journey, has dropped a significant hint regarding his future aspirations, expressing his desire to coach at the senior level.
At 21, Daicos has made a remarkable impact on the AFL since his debut in 2022, swiftly establishing himself as one of the league’s premier players. He clinched the Rising Star award in his debut season and narrowly missed out on claiming the Brownlow Medal last year due to injury.
Despite his setback, Daicos returned during the finals and played a pivotal role in Collingwood’s triumph as premiership contenders.
Recently in Melbourne, Daicos was announced as part of the Auskick team, where he will contribute to identifying future talents of the sport, including those who will have the honor of presenting medals on grand final day at the MCG.
“I aim to invest a considerable amount of effort into them, ensuring that one day they might fulfill their aspirations and experience a similar journey to mine,” expressed Daicos to 7NEWS.
“It holds immense significance. I was privileged to have exceptional role models during my upbringing, and I aspire to continue that legacy by imparting valuable skills and knowledge to the upcoming generation, ensuring they are well-equipped for their football endeavors.”
He affirmed that following the footsteps of Craig McRae post his retirement from playing football is an enticing prospect.
“It’s definitely a career path I’m keen to explore further. I have a deep love for the game, so coaching is something I aspire to pursue down the line,” remarked the skillful midfielder.
Daicos is also confident that his team can bounce back after being outplayed by GWS in their previous match.
With Sydney up next this Friday at the MCG, and considering the Swans’ impressive victory against Melbourne in their opening fixture, Daicos sees it as a prime opportunity to reset.
“Friday presents us with a great chance to start afresh at the MCG,” Daicos stated. “Regardless of the scoreboard, our aim is to compete until the final whistle. We’ve also taken valuable lessons as a team from our match against the Giants.”
