With the departure of Josh Jacobs, who is heading to the Green Bay Packers, and Austin Hooper, who is joining the New England Patriots, the Raiders need to find replacements. While they plan to rely on Zamir White, a third-year running back, and Michael Mayer, a second-year tight end, they still require support behind them.

Here are two veteran players who could fill the backup role effectively, come at an affordable price, and crucially, have connections to the Raiders’ new offensive coordinator, Luke Getsy.

Running back AJ Dillon:

He spent two seasons under Getsy’s guidance. Possessing a powerful, physical running style, he could complement White effectively. Dillon recorded 613 rushing yards in 2023, averaging 3.4 yards per carry. Raiders GM Tom Telesco aims to establish a running back committee, and Dillon presents a cost-effective option. Reports from NFL Media suggest he’s attracting interest in free agency, indicating a potential market for the Raiders to explore.

Tight end Robert Tonyan:

Tonyan has been under Getsy’s coaching in both Green Bay and Chicago. Given the Raiders’ requirement for a backup to Mayer, the prospect of Tonyan joining forces with Getsy for a third time could be logical. Additionally, the opportunity to reunite with star wide receiver Davante Adams might be enticing for Tonyan. Despite a modest 11 receptions with the Bears last season, he achieved two seasons with over 50 catches in Green Bay, including one under Getsy’s tutelage.
