Ryley Sanders, selected at Pick 6 in the 2023 Draft, and Harvey Gallagher, chosen at Pick 39 in 2022, will make their debut appearances in the red, blue, and white colors.

Sanders, praised for his disciplined approach and immediate readiness, is eager to make his mark in the midfield, where he’ll collaborate with renowned players such as Marcus Bontempelli and Tom Liberatore.

Originating from North Launceston, the young player is thrilled with the opportunity to debut so early in his career but acknowledges that there’s still much work ahead.

“It’s an amazing feeling – I’m really pleased with how welcoming the players and coaches have been towards me. I’ve felt incredibly comfortable, and they’ve allowed me to showcase the skills that led to my drafting. So, I’m grateful that my efforts have been recognized in the preseason, and I appreciate Bevo and the coaching staff for selecting me,” Sanders expressed to Bulldogs Media.

“It’s an incredible chance to make my debut, especially in the first round, in front of a large crowd at the MCG against a strong team like Melbourne – it’s going to be fantastic.”

As for Gallagher, his debut is the result of dedication and persistence, overcoming setbacks from an injury-marred 2023.

Recognized for his strong work ethic and quickness, the former Bendigo Pioneers captain will play a significant role in the Western Bulldogs’ forward line, putting pressure on Melbourne’s defenders.

“It’s been a bit of a challenging first year, but after a consistent pre-season, it’s rewarding to finally make my mark,” Gallagher commented.

“It’s pretty exciting to debut at the iconic MCG too – I’ve never had the opportunity to play there before, so that adds to the excitement.”

Sanders and Gallagher will be among the new recruits for the Western Bulldogs as they take the field at the MCG on Sunday.

Nick Coffield, James Harmes, and Lachlan Bramble are also set to make their debut appearances as Bulldogs players.

Coffield (formerly of St Kilda) and Harmes (from Melbourne) sought new opportunities after finding themselves lower in the pecking order at their previous clubs, while Bramble was picked up by the Western Bulldogs during the pre-season supplemental selection period (SSP) after being delisted by Hawthorn.
