On Friday, the Washington Capitals unveiled a fresh collection of cherry blossom jerseys. Each jersey will be autographed by the players and auctioned off, with proceeds going to support the MSE Foundation.
The genuine cherry blossom jerseys, unavailable for purchase by the public, retain the same design as last season but now sport a sky blue hue.
According to the Capitals:
Responding to widespread interest, the jersey maintains the design from the 2022-23 cherry blossom edition, with this year’s update featuring a sky-blue jersey base. Inspired by Washington, D.C.’s cherry blossom season, the design integrates hand-drawn blossoms into the Capitals logo, with white outlines representing the blossoms’ early stages of blooming. This motif extends to the numbering, which incorporates cherry branches, buds, and blossoms.
The MSE Foundation fundraising event will commence at washcaps.com/Cherry Blossom Auction on Sunday, March 24 at 11 a.m. and will continue until 3 p.m. on Tuesday, April 2.
This announcement coincides with the week when Washington, D.C.’s cherry trees around the Tidal Basin achieved peak bloom.
The Capitals have launched fresh cherry blossom merchandise online and have also introduced new items at their team stores.
According to RMNB’s Katie Adler, this is the merchandise that the Capitals have made available at their team store located near their practice rink in Ballston, VA. Among the offerings is a sublimated cherry blossom jersey, as shown in the second photo of the top row.
