During Monday night’s exhibition game in Mexico City, New York Yankees outfielder Oscar Gonzalez sustained a right orbital fracture.
According to the play-by-play commentator, in the second inning, Gonzalez was struck directly in the face by a fouled ball that rebounded off the handle of his bat. He fell to the ground for a brief period before being able to stand up on his own and subsequently being carted off the field.
Gonzalez received treatment for a right eye contusion at Alfredo Harp HelĂș Stadium before being transported to ABC Medical Center. As per the Yankees injury report, he will stay overnight at the hospital for observation and rest.
While the rest of the team travels to Houston, a Double-A trainer will remain with Gonzalez. The duration of his absence from play remains uncertain. Notably, he was not considered for the Opening Day roster after being reassigned to the minor league camp earlier that day.
