On Friday, the New York Yankees acquired right-handed pitcher JT Brubaker and $500,000 in international bonus pool funds from the Pittsburgh Pirates in exchange for a player who will be named later.
Brubaker, who served as Pittsburgh’s opening-day starter in 2022, sat out the previous season due to undergoing Tommy John surgery on April 12 under the care of Dr.
Keith Meister. In January, Brubaker agreed to a one-year contract worth $2,275,000 but was subsequently placed on the 60-day injured list on February 19.
Aged 30, Brubaker posted a record of 3-12 with a 4.69 ERA across 28 appearances for the Pirates in 2022. He achieved personal bests in starts (28), innings pitched (144), and strikeouts (147).
“The aspect that impresses me most about JT Brubaker isn’t just his pitching abilities, but also his character,” remarked Pirates manager Derek Shelton.
“Whenever we organized charity events, he and his wife consistently participated and were actively engaged. It truly reflects the kind of person he is. While trades are sometimes a part of the business, I’ll always hold a deep appreciation for JT Brubaker and continue to support him.”
Brubaker was drafted by the Pirates from Akron in the sixth round of the 2015 amateur draft.
