Breaking News: LSU basketball secures another local talent from the Big 12…

Last spring, Matt McMahon, the coach of LSU’s basketball team, signaled his desire to recruit more local talent by signing four players from Louisiana through the transfer portal. It seems this strategy is continuing into the current year, at least initially.

McMahon secured his first player from the portal on Friday with the signing of Cam Carter, a guard from Kansas State. Carter, a native of Donaldsonville, Louisiana, completed his high school career at the prestigious Oak Hill Academy in Virginia. Standing at 6 feet 3 inches and weighing 195 pounds, Carter started in all 70 games during his two seasons at Kansas State after spending his first year at Mississippi State. He has one year of eligibility remaining.

During the past season, Carter emerged as the second-leading scorer for Kansas State, averaging 14.6 points per game. He showcased his shooting prowess by making 59 shots from beyond the arc and maintaining an impressive 84.0% free-throw shooting accuracy.

Carter also recorded an average of 5.0 rebounds, 2.6 assists, and led the team with 1.4 steals during the Wildcats’ 19-15 season. Their campaign concluded with a first-round NIT defeat to Iowa, ending with a score of 91-82.
