The Cincinnati Reds have engaged in notable trades with the Minnesota Twins in recent years. One trade involved Sonny Gray, the Reds’ standout player, but did not result in acquiring Spencer Steer.
In another trade involving Tyler Mahle, Spencer Steer was acquired, while Christian Encarnacion-Strand, another significant part of the trade, gained attention as a breakout prospect for 2024 due to his exceptional power potential demonstrated during his emergence from the minors in 2023.
During the 2023 season, the Reds struggled to find a consistent position for Steer, who played various infield positions before settling into a corner outfield spot as they explored different options.
However, during the subsequent offseason, the Reds made a significant signing in Jeimer Candelario, who primarily plays at third base, a position where Steer has spent considerable time both in college and the professional leagues.
Despite Steer’s versatility and adaptability, he often goes unnoticed amidst the attention garnered by other talented acquisitions by the Reds.
Players like Elly De La Cruz, with his impressive power, speed, and arm, along with rookies like Matt McLain and CES, who exhibit remarkable hitting abilities, tend to overshadow Steer.
Additionally, Noelvi Marte’s promising performances have further diverted attention away from Steer, who remains undeterred despite being shifted around the field and consistently placed as the #7 hitter in most lineups by manager David Bell.
