Breaking News: Raiders cautioned against acquiring a 22-year-old QB…

As the 2024 NFL Draft approaches, the Las Vegas Raiders’ strategy regarding the quarterback position remains uncertain. With multiple needs across the roster, the team might opt to delay selecting a quarterback until later rounds.

However, according to Kristopher Knox of Bleacher Report, this approach may not be advisable. Knox suggests that waiting could be a mistake, even though quarterbacks like Tulane’s Michael Pratt might be available in later rounds. Despite Pratt’s college success, including being named the AAC Offensive Player of the Year in 2023, his limited potential may not make him an ideal fit for Las Vegas.

“Pratt possesses the qualities to serve as a valuable NFL backup and occasional starter, appealing to various franchises,” Knox stated in an April 8 article. “However, he’s unlikely to surpass O’Connell on the depth chart or emerge as the Raiders’ long-term solution at quarterback. While the Raiders should explore quarterback options in the later rounds of the draft, they shouldn’t feel compelled to pursue their third-string quarterback during draft weekend.”

Pratt excels in areas where both Aidan O’Connell and Gardner Minshew shine, particularly in protecting the football and delivering accurate throws from the pocket. However, if the Raiders are considering selecting a quarterback, it would be more prudent to choose one with greater athletic potential.

According to Derrik Klassen from the B/R Scouting Department, Pratt’s toughness, precision in passing, and moderate athleticism should enable him to perform adequately when needed. Nonetheless, his inconsistent decision-making and absence of standout qualities restrain his potential.
