Minnesota Vikings plan to extend a long-term contract with the NFL’s top non-quarterback superstar…

Minnesota Vikings fans are understandably focused on the NFL Draft, but another offseason decision, aside from selecting their next franchise QB, will significantly impact the team’s direction for the next 3-5 years.

Can general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah secure a long-term contract extension for NFL’s standout non-QB, Justin Jefferson, who’s seeking a deal that matches his superstar status?

More contract discussions for Justin Jefferson are on the way.

Albert Breer of SI thinks that Justin Jefferson and the Vikings will eventually reach an agreement, but it won’t be quick or straightforward. He also mentions that both parties intend to resume contract discussions right after the NFL Draft.

I believe Jefferson will be on the Minnesota Vikings’ roster for the foreseeable future.

Now, that’s not to say that [getting a deal done] will be easy. Jefferson was eligible for a deal a year ago. He’s since incurred another year of injury risk and sustained a hamstring injury, causing him to miss seven games.

[JJ’s number is] sky high, for sure, and more than $30 million per year. It’s going to be a challenge to get a deal done, but one I think the Vikings dive headlong into after the draft, with the goal of making sure Jefferson is on the roster for a long time to come.

Many local and national insiders closely following the Justin Jefferson situation expect a deal to eventually be made. However, if an agreement isn’t reached by the beginning of training camp, it’s uncertain whether Justin Jefferson will play without a new contract.

It’s reassuring that Breer is optimistic about a deal. However, if these current talks don’t pan out, rumors about a Justin Jefferson trade will certainly ignite the internet. So, fingers crossed for an agreement, but be prepared for any outcome.
