Trouble for Michigan football again…

For the second time in approximately a month, a staffer from Michigan football has been taken into custody for driving under the influence.

Greg Scruggs, the first defensive line coach appointed by Sherrone Moore, was also arrested on the same charge and ultimately resigned after further details emerged. It was an unfortunate event that should never have occurred.

The latest incident involves Denard Robinson, which is particularly disheartening for Michigan football fans. As one of the most cherished players in the program’s history, Robinson, known as “Shoelace,” provided much-needed light during the darker times under coaches Rich Rodriguez and Brady Hoke.

Nevertheless, this does not excuse his recent actions. According to the Detroit News, Robinson was arrested at 3:05 AM for operating while intoxicated, following a single-vehicle accident.

Another setback for Michigan football’s reputation.

This situation must be incredibly frustrating for Sherrone Moore, the new head coach of Michigan football. Whether he likes it or not, these incidents reflect poorly on his leadership. It’s puzzling that after an assistant coach was dismissed for a similar offense, another staffer would make the same serious error.

Losing a job isn’t the worst possible outcome either. Denard is fortunate to be safe and that no one was hurt in the incident. The potential for harm is real, and it’s something that all coaches, and indeed everyone, should keep in mind before getting behind the wheel.

People do make mistakes, and Denard Robinson is not a bad person. However, he needs to take responsibility for his actions, and the Michigan football coaches need to enforce stricter discipline.

I don’t want to see it happen, but it’s difficult to envision how Robinson, even as an off-field staffer, can remain in his position. It’s truly unfortunate, but actions do have consequences.
