Zeda Haas, the brother of Brisbane Broncos prop Payne Haas, is contemplating pursuing civil action against the authorities following the withdrawal of all drug charges against him.
He and another individual were initially accused after being stopped in a ute in Beresfield, NSW Hunter region, in August, shortly after picking up a package.
Police reported detecting the package at the border and confiscated 1.8kg of methamphetamine from the shipment before allowing it to proceed.
Australian Border Force officers intercepted two parcels from the United States containing a total of 4kg of methamphetamine, valued at $3.5 million on the street.
Haas had been charged with supplying a commercial quantity of a prohibited drug and trafficking a commercial quantity of a controlled drug.
Both charges were dismissed in Newcastle Local Court last week.
During a bail hearing in September, a NSW Supreme Court judge characterized the case against Haas as “extremely weak.”
“The evidence against him primarily consists of him being in the car with someone who went to pick up this package,” Justice David Davies remarked.
Haas’s lawyer, Abdul Reslan, confirmed on Wednesday that Haas is contemplating civil action over the charges being dropped.
