It’s been reported that the Sydney Roosters have secured new contracts for two of their standout young players.
Looking to the future, the Sydney Roosters have ensured the retention of their top young talent by extending the contracts of brothers Xavier Va’a and De La Salle Va’a for another two years.
According to News Corp, the club has also secured new contracts for young forwards Blake Steep and Ethan Roberts.
This move is seen as a significant coup for the Roosters, with both players starting the season on development contracts before Blake Steep was elevated to the Top 30 roster for 2024.
Steep, who captains the club’s SG Ball Cup team, mainly plays in the lock position and has been part of the Roosters Academy since joining from the Central Coast Roosters in the Harold Matthews Cup in 2021.
Roberts, a second-rower for the SG Ball Cup team, has similarly been groomed through the Roosters Academy, beginning his junior representative career with the club in the Harold Matthews Cup in 2020.
Two years prior, it was reported that Roberts turned down an offer from the South Sydney Rabbitohs, following the Roosters’ successful acquisition of players such as Joseph Suaalii, Luke Keary, and Angus Crichton from their rivals.
