The New York Yankees’ high-profile acquisition of Juan Soto this offseason marked the start of what numerous fans envision as a long-term partnership between the player and the team.
Soto, widely regarded as one of the premier hitters in baseball, is set to become a free agent this offseason. As a client of Scott Boras, he is expected to attract significant attention in the market due to his exceptional performance and young age.
Retaining Soto either during the offseason or mid-season is the Yankees’ top priority. Regardless of the cost, New York must make every effort to ensure his continued presence on the team.
If the Yankees fail to secure Soto, there’s a strong possibility that Steve Cohen of the New York Mets will present an irresistible offer to Boras and Soto. Although Cohen didn’t make extensive moves this offseason, there is an expectation for him to continue his trend of significant spending on players.
Ken Rosenthal suggested on an episode of “Fair Territory” that the Mets could potentially sign Soto while also retaining Pete Alonso, who will also hit free agency this offseason.
Rosenthal implied that if you’re Steve Cohen, you might be able to afford both players.
