Experienced player potentially departing Sydney Roosters…

Since his debut in Round 24 of 2012, Daniel Tupou has been a dependable force in the club’s defensive lineup. Approaching his 250th first-grade game for the Roosters, Tupou has been integral to the team’s three premiership wins in 2013, 2018, and 2019.

His impact extends beyond the club level, with significant contributions to Tonga and the NSW Blues, boasting 18 Tests and ten State of Origin appearances, including the 2022 series.

As Tupou ages and the Roosters focus on nurturing younger talent like Billy Smith, his contract status for next season remains uncertain, set to expire at the end of 2024. Reports from L’Independant suggest interest from the Catalan Dragons in securing his services for the Super League.

Though nothing definitive has been stated about Tupou’s future with the Roosters, speculation is rife, particularly considering the possibility of retirement alongside teammates Luke Keary and Jared Waerea-Hargreaves at season’s end. Recent reports from The Sydney Morning Herald indicate that the 32-year-old is deliberating whether to continue playing next year.

Tupou himself expressed deep appreciation for the Roosters last year when extending his contract, emphasizing his love for the club and commitment to contributing to its success.

Amidst confirmed departures and numerous players facing contract uncertainty beyond this season, the Roosters are in a period of transition.
