“Breaking News: New York Giants Secure Veteran Cornerback”

Stephon Gilmore remains a potential target for the New York Giants during this offseason.

After concluding minicamp, the NY Giants are actively enhancing their roster for the upcoming season. Recently, they received news that veteran tight end Darren Waller will retire from the NFL in 2024, resulting in a significant cap space increase of $11,625,200 according to Over the Cap. This development was expected to allow the Giants to target a seasoned defensive back in free agency.

Following missed opportunities with Tre’Davious White, Steven Nelson, and Darious Williams earlier in the offseason, the Giants have secured a veteran cornerback. They signed Tre Herndon, formerly of the Jacksonville Jaguars, to a one-year contract potentially worth $1.125 million. Herndon, in his seventh year, impressed during a tryout with the Giants, showcasing his skills with an interception returned for a touchdown.

While Herndon bolsters the Giants’ secondary and fills a crucial vacancy, his contract will count just $985,000 against the salary cap, leaving room for further roster improvements if necessary. The Giants may still pursue additional veteran defensive backs or address other positional needs. One notable candidate is Stephon Gilmore, a former All-Pro cornerback who could be an ideal addition for the Giants.
