The Jets have signed cornerback Nehemiah Shelton, a player familiar with the team from previous stints.

Standing 6-2 and weighing 185 pounds, Shelton spent time with the Jets last summer following his experience with the Memphis Showboats of the UFL. He was also a member of the Jets’ practice squad last fall, showcasing his potential to the coaching staff.

Shelton, a product of San Jose State, went undrafted in 2023 but made a significant impact during his college career. He was named to the All-Mountain West team in both 2021 and 2022, underscoring his defensive skills and consistency. Over 45 games at SJSU, Shelton accumulated impressive stats with 195 tackles, 8 interceptions, and 32 pass defenses.

In the 2022 season, Shelton led the Spartans with 8 pass defenses and tied for the team lead with 2 interceptions. His performance in the 2021 season was particularly notable, as he ranked third in the nation, averaging 1.4 pass defenses per game. This record highlighted his ability to disrupt opposing offenses and defend against the pass effectively.

The Jets’ decision to sign Shelton brings a promising and experienced defensive back to their roster, one who has already demonstrated his capabilities in both college and professional settings.
