Russell Westbrook‘s much-anticipated move to the Denver Nuggets is nearly official. According to The Athletic’s Shams Charania, the former MVP has signed a two-year, $6.8 million contract, with a player option for the second year, making him the Nuggets’ second free-agent acquisition this summer. Last season, Westbrook came off the bench for the Los Angeles Clippers, averaging 11.1 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 4.5 assists with a 45.4% field goal percentage. Earlier this month, he was traded to the Utah Jazz in a sign-and-trade deal involving Kris Dunn and others but was subsequently waived. This marks the second time Westbrook was traded to the Jazz without playing a game for them. Since being drafted fourth overall by Oklahoma City in 2008, he has played for four different teams after being traded to Houston in 2019. Despite his below-average outside shooting (44.9% overall, 29.5% on 3-pointers, 68.5% on free throws), Westbrook has consistently been a high-energy player capable of creating offense for himself and his teammates.
