Manchester United have reportedly hit a roadblock in their pursuit of Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi. The 25-year-old has become a key player for Real Sociedad, making 45 competitive appearances in the 2023-24 season. His impressive performances earned him a spot in Spain’s 26-man squad for Euro 2024, where he made four appearances, including a standout performance in the final against England.

Despite Man United’s interest and the €60m (£50.7m) release clause in Zubimendi’s contract, journalist Fabrizio Romano reports that the deal is “complicated.” Zubimendi is reportedly very happy at Real Sociedad and in no rush to leave his boyhood club. Meanwhile, Zubimendi has also been linked with Barcelona and Arsenal, adding to the uncertainty about his future.

As United looks to bolster their midfield for the 2024-25 season, they have signed defender Leny Yoro and forward Joshua Zirkzee. With the futures of Scott McTominay, Casemiro, and Christian Eriksen uncertain, United is considering alternatives. Paris Saint-Germain’s Manuel Ugarte is a top target, but his €70m (£58.9m) valuation poses a challenge. Sporting Lisbon’s Morten Hjulmand, along with Adrien Rabiot and Youssouf Fofana, are also on United’s radar.
