According to head coach Shane Steichen, Indianapolis Colts defensive ends are currently dealing with calf injuries Samson Ebukam and Dayo Odeyingbo (reported by Joel A. Erickson of the IndyStar).

The full extent of the injuries is currently unknown, especially for Ebukam, who was reportedly in significant pain and had to be carted off the field during Sunday’s training camp practice. He did not return.
Ebukam is projected to start at right defensive end after a career season in which he recorded 57 tackles (39 solo), 10 tackles for loss, 9.5 sacks, 48 total QB pressures, 3 forced fumbles, and a pass defensed during all 17 starts in his debut season with the Colts. He was graded as PFF’s 14th best edge in 2023 with an overall grade of +84.4.
On the other hand, Odeyingbo’s calf injury seems to be relatively minor, as he was later seen riding a stationary bike during Sunday’s practice. Given the early stage of training camp, the Colts are likely being cautious with his injury, avoiding unnecessary strain.
Last year, as a versatile rotational defensive lineman, Odeyingbo had a breakout season with 8.0 sacks and 29 total QB pressures, mostly coming off the bench. He is now entering a contract year.
It’s unfortunate to see any injuries during Colts training camp, especially to a starting defensive end and a key rotational backup. While it seems that Indianapolis has avoided a serious injury with Odeyingbo, Ebukam’s status will need to be closely monitored moving forward.
