Versatile Saints Player Snagged by Hawthorn as Pay Details Surface!

Hawthorn has officially signed St Kilda key position player Josh Battle through free agency on Friday.

Battle was probably impacted by the Hawks’ remarkable comeback from a 0–5 start to a semi-final appearance. Battle has spent a large portion of the 2024 season considering his future.

The 26-year-old has played 123 games over eight seasons with the Saints, finishing third in this year’s best and fairest voting, behind Callum Wilkie and Jack Sinclair.

Having played well at both ends of the field while wearing the St. Kilda jersey, his versatility should fit right into Sam Mitchell’s scheme of play.

According to reports, Hawthorn intends to play the right-footer mainly defensively, which should free up more playing time for Josh Weddle and James Sicily.

The Hawks have made two major moves with the signing of Battle and are expecting to trade for West Coast player Tom Barrass.

St Kilda’s payment for losing Battle will be Pick 8.

While list manager Mark McKenzie is enthusiastic about Battle’s potential contribution, Hawthorn extends a warm welcome to Battle and his family.

McKenzie said, “Josh, his partner Casey, and their children Bobbi and Billie are joining the Hawks with great excitement.” Josh is an important addition to our team, and we are happy he decided to stay on here to further his career. With over eight seasons of experience, he’s a proven player who will have an immediate impact on our defense while enhancing the overall team.”

“Beyond his skills, Josh is a high-quality individual who will positively shape the future of our club.”
