Patrick Ewing has a noteworthy professional background. The Hall of Fame center scored 21 points, grabbed 9.8 rebounds, and blocked 2.4 shots per game on average over 17 seasons. He won Rookie of the Year in 1986, made 11 All-Star appearances, and was selected to seven All-NBA teams.

Before taking a job back at Georgetown as the head coach of their basketball program in 2017, Ewing worked as an assistant coach for the Washington Wizards, Orlando Magic, Charlotte Hornets, and Houston Rockets after retiring in 2002.

Ewing was let go by the university in March of last year following six years of underwhelming performance, and he has largely avoided the spotlight in the basketball world ever since. But now he is starting a new phase of his basketball career.

The New York Knicks formally declared on Friday morning that their all-time top scorer has rejoined the team as a Basketball Ambassador.

“As I mentioned when my number 33 jersey was raised to the rafters at MSG, I will always be a Knick and a New Yorker. I’m excited to start this new role and to officially return to the organization I cherish,” Ewing stated. “The Garden has always felt like home, and I look forward to collaborating with Leon Rose, Coach Thibodeau, the team, and everyone who makes this place so special.”

While specifics about Ewing’s day-to-day involvement with the team are still unclear, the announcement indicated that he will assist with both basketball and business operations, working alongside the front office and Thibodeau.

Regardless of his exact role, this reunion is a significant moment for the franchise. Team members and fans will have the opportunity to see one of the most iconic players in Knicks history during an exciting and crucial time for the organization.
