Joe Richards, a forward and midfielder for Collingwood, has asked to be traded to Port Adelaide.
The swift Magpie is free to select his next club after his contract expires at the end of the 2024 campaign, but he is not qualified for free agency. This implies that Port Adelaide and Collingwood will have to negotiate a trade.
Richards has participated in nine games for the Magpies since making his AFL debut this season against West Coast. “Collingwood forward Joe Richards has informed the club of his decision to request a trade to Port Adelaide,” the club confirmed in a statement.
The 24-year-old, who was selected with the 48th overall pick in the 2022 AFL National Draft, has left his mark in his few games played. Port Adelaide, who presently owns Picks 39 and 57 for this year’s draft, and the Magpies will talk about his request regarding access to their 2025 selections.
Furthermore, Richards’ trade request may make it easier for Collingwood to pursue Dan Houston of Port Adelaide. Port Adelaide is also looking to bring Gold Coast forward Jack Lukosius on board during this trade period, which concludes next Wednesday night.
