Title: “Bears Chairman Declares No Regrets Over Missing Out on Tom Brady”
The legendary quarterback Tom Brady revealed during the Week 4 game that he “seriously considered” joining the Chicago Bears as a free agent in 2020 before ultimately signing with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Bears chairman George McCaskey addressed this revelation in a recent interview.
In light of Brady’s assertions, McCaskey underlined that the event seemed like a far-off memory. “That seems like ancient history now,” he said, adding that although the Bears were considering a run at Brady, they were happy with the way things worked out. “It didn’t work out for us, but he found great success in Tampa,” he added.
Instead of lamenting the missed opportunity, McCaskey pointed out the Bears’ own trajectory in 2020. While Brady led the Buccaneers to a Super Bowl victory, the Bears, with Mitchell Trubisky and Nick Foles, still made the playoffs. Despite the early postseason exit, McCaskey expressed pride in the accomplishments of their team.
With Baker Mayfield’s rise and Brady’s retirement, the Bears are looking to the future and their hope is that rookie quarterback Caleb Williams can become the franchise quarterback they require. McCaskey said, “We are always evaluating our options, and while we looked into Brady, we are confident in the direction we are headed.”
According to Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk, Brady’s camp did not get very far in their talks before Brady signed with Tampa. Nevertheless, McCaskey rejects any regrets about the past and maintains optimism about the Bears’ future. The advice to Chicago supporters is to focus on the future rather than regretting the past.
