Excitement over a Knicks fan’s suggestion that Anthony Edwards would join the team has officially started.

An intriguing conversation happened following the Knicks’ 115-110 victory over the Timberwolves in their preseason game on October 13. The fan yelled, “Once that contract is up, NY baby!” as Edwards and Karl-Anthony Towns greeted each other. Edwards answered, “I would definitely want to be reunited with KAT.”

This comment caused a stir on social media, with some Knicks supporters thrilled about the possibility of bringing in one of the league’s most promising young players and others warning against chasing big-name players, citing the team’s robust roster as justification.

Edwards showed off his skill in the most recent game, making 11 of 19 shots and 8 of 13 from three-point range to score 31 points in just 27 minutes.

Can the Knicks realistically sign Edwards?

Knicks fans are known for dreaming big, often eyeing top stars. In the past, they’ve coveted players like LeBron James, Joel Embiid, and Giannis Antetokounmpo. With Edwards, the situation is complex. At just 22, he’s already an All-Star and made the All-NBA second team last year. However, he recently signed a five-year max extension, keeping him under contract with the Timberwolves until the summer of 2029.

Do the Knicks Have Cap Room for Edwards?

Currently, the Knicks have no players signed beyond the 2028–29 season, aside from OG Anunoby and Jalen Brunson, who have player options. If managed correctly, the Knicks could have enough cap space to sign a max player in 2029 and potentially in 2027 or 2028. The projected cap for 2027 is $174 million, and the NBA’s cap is set at $140 million for next season, with a projected increase due to a new media deal.

While rumors of Edwards joining the Knicks are just starting, the possibility remains years away. As for a reunion with KAT, it could be an exciting prospect for both players. However, whether Towns will still be with the Knicks in five years is uncertain, as he has a player option for the 2027–28 season.

If the Knicks could land Edwards, it would be a significant boost for both the team and the league. By 2029, Edwards will be entering his prime at 27 years old, making him a perfect fit for Madison Square Garden. The future remains unpredictable, and fans will have to wait and see how it unfolds.
