The New York Jets are in the spotlight once again. Just a week after dismissing head coach Robert Saleh, they suffered a loss to the Buffalo Bills on Monday night football. Following the game, Aaron Rodgers made several noteworthy comments, including a critical remark about Mike Williams regarding a late-game interception.
The very next day, the Jets traded for Davante Adams from the Las Vegas Raiders, reuniting the quarterback and wide receiver duo from their days at the Green Bay Packers. This acquisition adds a key offensive asset as the Jets gear up for a Week 7 clash with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
However, the Jets will be covering the rest of Adams’ salary, which has led some, including Jeremy Fowler of ESPN, to describe the move as somewhat desperate. An AFC executive stated, “Other teams were wary of taking on his full salary, and the Raiders were eager to unload the cost, making the Jets a viable option given their cap space. They were a little desperate.”
Although several teams, such as the Buffalo Bills and Pittsburgh Steelers, expressed interest in Adams, the Jets had a strong advantage due to Rodgers’ previous connection with him.
With a 2-4 record and the risk of falling to the bottom of the AFC East after three straight losses, the Jets are hoping Adams’ debut on Sunday Night Football against the Steelers will turn their season around. Only time will tell if this “desperate” move pays off for the franchise.
