In 2025, ruckman Aiden Begg, who was recently delisted by Collingwood, is returning to the local football level by joining his junior team, North Ringwood, in the Eastern Football Netball League.
Begg made his debut against Gold Coast in 2022 after joining the Magpies from the Eastern Ranges via the Mid-Season Draft in 2021 and playing in three AFL games. With 15 disposals, three clearances, and four marks, he made an impression and was able to maintain his spot in the squad for another two weeks. He only played in seven games in 2024 due to a knee injury sustained in the VFL, though, as injuries dogged the latter part of his time at Collingwood.
The club is excited about his decision to return to North Ringwood for the upcoming season at the age of 21. “The North Ringwood Football Club is very excited to have one of our own, Aiden Begg, return to the team for 2025,” the club said.
“Aiden was a real standout in his junior years with the Saints, and his journey to the AFL with Collingwood has been immensely inspiring. Aiden has performed exceptionally well off the field and provided the men’s and women’s teams with invaluable leadership, despite the fact that an unfortunate injury ended his league career.
“Despite being sidelined, his contributions demonstrate his passion for the game and this team. We can not wait to watch him succeed on the field once more as he returns to his birthplace.
“Welcome back, Beggsy! We are confident that you will make a significant impact this season, and the Saints family is completely behind you.”
In 2024, North Ringwood finished seventh in the EFNL‘s Division 1 after winning five of their eighteen games and finishing 24 Premiership points short of the championship game.
Former Richmond and North Melbourne forward Robin Nahas served as the Saints’ coach this season before resigning at the end of the campaign.
