The Washington Capitals may see the return of two key players to their lineup for the game against the Edmonton Oilers on Wednesday night.
Fourth-line center Nic Dowd and top-pairing defenseman Martin Fehervary both participated in line rushes during the team’s practice at Rogers Place on Tuesday.
When questioned about the significance of their participation and the possibility of their return, Capitals head coach Spencer Carbery responded positively, stating, “Yes, I believe so. They are continuing to progress in the right direction, so we’ll have to wait and see for [Wednesday night].”
Dowd has been sidelined since February 20 after sustaining a head injury from a hit by Timo Meier during a game against the New Jersey Devils. Despite being a sought-after player leading up to the trade deadline, Dowd remained with the Capitals and has missed the last nine games due to the upper-body injury.
Fehervary had to exit the Capitals’ 4-3 victory over the Montreal Canadiens on February 17 after an awkward fall behind the net. Following the game, the Slovakian defenseman was seen using crutches due to the lower-body injury.
Both Dowd and Fehervary seem to be progressing similarly, as they both discarded their non-contact jerseys during Saturday’s practice.
Meanwhile, there is more uncertainty surrounding Tom Wilson’s condition. Wilson was absent from Monday’s game against the Winnipeg Jets due to an upper-body injury, and he also missed the morning skate for maintenance reasons.
