Breaking News: Miami Dolphins modify contract terms of their 31-year-old star player…

The Miami Dolphins have restructured the contract of running back Raheem Mostert, extending his original deal with the team for an additional year, as announced by his agent on Friday.

According to a source familiar with the matter, the restructured contract will see Mostert remaining with Miami through the 2025 season, with a total value of $9.075 million, as reported by ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

In just two seasons with the Dolphins, Mostert has eclipsed his combined performance from his previous seven NFL seasons, accumulating a total of 1,903 rushing yards and 21 touchdowns. Additionally, he has contributed 56 receptions for 377 yards and 5 touchdowns.

Mostert initially signed a two-year contract with the Dolphins in 2022, during which he achieved career highs with 891 rushing yards on 183 carries. He surpassed those numbers in 2023, rushing for 1,012 yards on 209 carries, leading the league with a franchise-record 18 rushing touchdowns. His 21 total touchdowns in 2023 also set a franchise record.

Despite turning 32 at the start of the 2024 season in September, Mostert has only amassed 645 rushing attempts throughout his career.

To provide context, since Mostert entered the league in 2015, 26 running backs have accumulated at least 1,000 rushing attempts. However, only three of them have averaged more yards per carry than Mostert’s impressive 5.2.

Entering his third season with the Dolphins, Mostert is anticipated to share rushing duties with De’Von Achane, who made a splash as a rookie last season. Together, they constitute the NFL’s quickest running back duo. Mostert and Achane collectively recorded three of the league’s top 10 fastest ball-carrier speeds last year.
