During a spring training game, Dylan Carlson, the outfielder for the Cardinals, injured his shoulder while attempting to field a ball. He collided with a teammate and strained one of the shoulder joints upon hitting the ground. Consequently, he had to be removed from the Opening Day lineup because of the incident.
The Cardinals have received encouraging updates regarding their young standout player. Carlson underwent a pain-relieving injection on Friday, enabling him to resume baseball activities early next week. However, it will still take some time for him to fully recover, so Cardinals supporters need to remain patient.
Carlson showcased his batting prowess during spring training and was slated to begin the season as a starter in the outfield for the Cardinals. Right-handed pitcher Sonny Gray is currently managing a hamstring strain. He sustained this injury during a spring game against the Washington Nationals in early March. Gray holds significant importance for the Cardinals, having joined the team during the offseason. According to MLB.com, Gray secured a three-year, $75 million contract following his impressive performance in 2023, where he was a finalist for the AL Cy Young award. Prior to joining the Cardinals, Gray spent the last two seasons with the Minnesota Twins. Throughout his MLB career, he has also played for the New York Yankees, Oakland Athletics, and Cincinnati Reds.
The pitcher is making progress in his recovery, evident as his pitch count increases for the franchise’s triple-A minor league team. Gray is scheduled to start for the Memphis ball club on Wednesday, where his performance will be closely monitored.
