Jodie Burrage, the second-ranked British player, secured a spot in the quarterfinals of a WTA 500 event for the first time by defeating Romania’s Jaqueline Cristian with a score of 6-3, 7-6 (7-5).

Her next opponent in the upcoming round will be either Jelena Ostapenko or Clara Tauson.

Katie Boulter, the top-ranked British player at 27, experienced a 7-6 (7-2), 6-4 loss to  Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova.

In a tightly contested match, Boulter succumbed in a first-set tie-break, and in the second set, Pavlyuchenkova secured a crucial break in the ninth game before serving out the match.

At 24 years old, Burrage successfully navigated two qualifying rounds and defeated Varvara Gracheva before encountering Cristian.

She experienced her initial setback when attempting to close out the match at 5-3 in the second set, but Burrage ultimately triumphed by winning a tie-break.
