Kansas City Chiefs QB and HC Andy Reid are open to reuniting on a new team…

The Kansas City Chiefs have enjoyed success with quarterback Patrick Mahomes and head coach Andy Reid leading the way. However, Mahomes recently mentioned the possibility of playing for another team in a future offseason, prompting Reid to jokingly suggest he might follow suit.

Under Reid’s guidance, Mahomes has led the Chiefs to three Super Bowl victories, with a chance for a threepeat next February. Speculation about Reid’s and star tight end Travis Kelce’s futures with the team arose before February’s Super Bowl. As the new season approaches, there will be many questions about Reid’s potential retirement from the league.

For the time being, Kansas City fans should savor their dynastic team. Things might look different in a few years, and in a decade, the Chiefs might not even call Kansas City home. After a recent failed tax referendum, both the Chiefs and the Kansas City Royals are considering opportunities to expand their ventures beyond Jackson County.

Patrick Mahomes is interested in playing with the Royals.

According to Sean Gregory of Time, Mahomes expressed interest in exploring options with the Royals.

“I’ve talked to the Royals,” Mahomes shared. “If I can visit spring training, I’m open to it. I’ll get approval from the Chiefs, but I’d like to see what I can do—whether it’s hitting, pitching, or just practicing with them.”

Would Andy Reid accompany him?

Gregory discussed Mahomes’ interest in working out with the Royals with Reid. Reid believes Mahomes could excel in MLB, noting Mahomes’ background as a baseball recruit at Texas Tech and his MLB draft selection in 2014. Reid jokingly said he’d want to join the Royals’ staff alongside Mahomes.

“I haven’t really considered that,” Reid admits. “That’s a big question. He was an impressive baseball player,” Reid acknowledges. “Given his background and talent, I believe he could play in the major leagues.” Reid adds with a grin, “But he’d have to take me on as his manager.”

The Kansas City Chiefs don’t need to be concerned about the Royals recruiting Mahomes.

The Chiefs are the main attraction in the fall, especially considering the local baseball team typically misses the playoffs by the time NFL training camp rolls around. Mahomes and Reid are too talented in football to see a potential Hall of Fame quarterback swap his shoulder pads for a baseball bat and glove. Still, Mahomes attending spring training would certainly create buzz for the MLB and Royals.

Given Mahomes’ athleticism, he could likely find success in baseball. Tim Tebow had some success at the minor league level after transitioning from football. With Mahomes’ exceptional arm strength, could he make it to the MLB?
