The New York Jets may have discovered a promising talent from a historically black college or university (HBCU) during their recent minicamp. Brandon Codrington, a former defensive back and kick returner from North Carolina Central, has secured a contract with the Jets after impressing at the team’s rookie minicamp, as reported by Believe Sports Group, his representation.

Codrington, hailing from Raleigh, NC, expressed gratitude with the phrase “All glory to God” in response to the news. He was among several HBCU prospects who received an opportunity to showcase their skills at a rookie minicamp following the NFL Draft.

Brandon Codrington played a crucial role for North Carolina Central during Trei Oliver’s tenure. Joining the team as a freshman in 2019, he earned recognition as third-team All-MEAC, showcasing his skills with a punt return average of 7.8 yards and an 18.8-yard average on kickoff returns. Over the following two years, he elevated his performance, earning All-MEAC First Team honors in 2021.

Codrington distinguished himself as the third-ranked punt returner in NCAA Division I-FCS, boasting a remarkable 15.0-yard punt return average in the MEAC. In his senior year in 2023, he further solidified his reputation by scoring two touchdowns on punt returns, both exceeding 80 yards. Notably, he scored an 81-yard punt return touchdown against Winston-Salem State and added an 85-yard score against Howard.

With his accomplishments, Codrington has now secured a spot with the New York Jets, aiming to prove himself at the professional level. The announcement was made on HBCU Gameday, recognizing the Jets’ acquisition of this exceptional return specialist from an HBCU.
