Carlton coach Michael Voss has identified Jeremy Cameron as a key focus in his plan to counter Geelong’s strong offense in their upcoming AFL match at the MCG. The Blues (9-4) will face the Cats (8-5) for the second time this season following the mid-season break.
With Geelong captain Patrick Dangerfield returning from a hamstring injury, Voss is considering deploying Alex Cincotta to mark him, or potentially other threats like Tom Stewart or Max Holmes.
Voss highlighted Cameron’s impact against Carlton, noting his 14 goals in three matches since Voss took over as coach. While Cameron is a priority, Voss stressed the importance of a balanced defensive strategy against Geelong’s diverse attacking options.
“We need to tighten our team defense after conceding a season-high 118 points to Geelong earlier,” Voss admitted. “Our focus is on defensive solidity and maintaining our style of play, rather than relying solely on offensive transitions.”
Voss also praised Cincotta’s effectiveness in recent matches, emphasizing his role in Carlton’s tactical approach against Geelong.
Meanwhile, Geelong will welcome back key players including Dangerfield, Zach Tuohy, and Ollie Henry, although Tanner Bruhn will miss out due to a wrist injury.
“It was unexpected how serious Tanner’s injury turned out to be,” commented Geelong coach Chris Scott. “He continued training despite discomfort, but scans revealed a scaphoid fracture.”
