He aims to return to the Red Sox lineup by July 2 for a series against the Marlins.
Casas’ potential return in just two weeks would provide a significant boost to the Red Sox lineup, which has felt his absence despite strong overall production. Since Casas last played on April 20, the team’s first base production has been below average with a wRC+ of 98. Casas himself has excelled, boasting a 160 wRC+ since last year’s All-Star break, second only to Freddie Freeman among first basemen.
While Casas is progressing with batting and running bases, McWilliams noted uncertainty about whether he will meet his targeted return date. Manager Alex Cora remains cautious, expressing hope for Casas’ return during the Miami series but emphasizing the importance of a careful rehabilitation process to avoid rushing him back. In the interim, the Red Sox are expected to rely on Dominic Smith and Bobby Dalbec at first base.
