Collingwood coach Craig McRae has provided an update on the Magpies’ off-season player movement plans, indicating that the club is no longer considering Essendon’s Jake Stringer as a trade option, despite their ongoing efforts to acquire new players during next month’s trade window.
Recently, Stringer’s name emerged as a potential target after it was reported that he could seek a longer contract elsewhere, as the Bombers are unwilling to offer him a multi-year deal. Although he has triggered a one-year extension for 2025, he is exploring his options in the open market, with Collingwood and Sydney linked to him.
However, McRae confirmed that Collingwood’s interest in Stringer has waned, stating, “We won’t be bringing Jake Stringer to our football club.” He emphasized that they conducted thorough research on how Stringer would fit into their plans.
Now, the Magpies are focusing on GWS free agent Harry Perryman, making efforts to outbid clubs like Port Adelaide. McRae expressed a clear preference for adding players rather than picks, asserting, “I want players that are going to make us better.”
In addition, Melbourne free agent Adam Tomlinson is also under consideration for a potential move to Collingwood. Meanwhile, the club is working on internal contract matters, including retaining second-year player Joe Richards, who may consider a move to Port Adelaide.
Collingwood is expected to enhance their draft picks, currently at 33, 48, and 51, with the anticipated departure of defender John Noble, who has requested a trade to Queensland. The trade period opens on Monday, October 7, and runs through Wednesday, October 16.
