Due to their considerable depth on the wings, the New York Knicks traded Donte DiVincenzo in order to acquire Karl Anthony-Towns.

Now that they are getting ready to play the Charlotte Hornets in their first preseason game, there are rumors circulating that they might be interested in signing Marcus Smart, the guard from Memphis and the former Defensive Player of the Year. Known for his outstanding defensive play, Smart has established himself as a formidable opponent who can stop top offensive players.

Even though his shooting is not his best suit, the Knicks might be looking to bolster their defense. But considering the already strong bench that was assembled after the DiVincenzo trade—which features players like Josh Hart, Miles McBride, and Cameron Payne—adding Smart might not be the best course of action.

It is important for the Knicks to keep some of the same players from their playoff team even though Smart could improve the defense. At this stage of the preseason, trading a player like McBride for Smart would not make sense.
