Despite the city’s intricate relationship with sports due to its ties to gambling, hosting the premier American sporting event represented a pivotal moment. The Kansas City Chiefs secured an electrifying 25-22 victory over the San Francisco 49ers in overtime, cementing a memorable debut Super Bowl in Las Vegas.
During a press briefing where he formally transferred Super Bowl hosting responsibilities to New Orleans, Goodell praised the Las Vegas Raiders and owner Mark Davis for their pivotal role in securing the game at the remarkable Allegiant Stadium.
“It wouldn’t have been possible without the Raiders’ backing,” he remarked. “Throughout the week, Mark Davis was advocating for a Super Bowl in Las Vegas even before their relocation. The enthusiasm and hospitality here were palpable… you surpassed expectations.”
