This has become a hotbed of NFL trade rumors, but I’ve mostly avoided the noise because the details seem tangled in a loop of bizarre scenarios. Unlike the NBA, NFL trades typically involve just two teams exchanging specific players. Yet most of the trade discussions circulating on social media feature three or more teams.
These multi-team proposals are unlikely to gain traction since just one team can veto a deal, derailing the entire transaction.
I don’t want to mix issues here, but consider the ‘compensation’ the Rams would need to provide in these convoluted scenarios. In one version, they’re asked to give up veteran QB Matthew Stafford along with a 2025 Round 3 pick to land a prospect that many analysts already see as a potential bust. In another, the Rams would need to part with a 2025 Round 1 pick and QB Jimmy Garoppolo in exchange for QB Bryce Young, OG Landon Young, OG Zak Zinter, and RB Nick Chubb.
This would leave the Rams without any picks in the first two rounds of the 2025 NFL Draft, a shaky quarterback situation, and an excess of five running backs on the active roster, plus six or more interior offensive linemen.
While I’m not an NFL general manager, neither of these proposed trades does anything to improve the Rams’ roster. This is especially concerning given the risks of adding a young quarterback who’s struggling with his confidence and development.
