The Dallas Cowboys roster appears to have several weaknesses, which has led to trade rumors involving the Star. Owner Jerry Jones has played down the likelihood of making a big midseason acquisition.

The cutoff date for any actions is Election Day, Tuesday, November 5, 2024. One player mentioned in trade discussions is Cleveland Browns star pass rusher Myles Garrett. Bleacher Report’s Alex Kay proposed a trade that would send Garrett to Dallas in exchange for four future draft picks: two first-rounders (2025, 2026) and two third-rounders (2025, 2026).

Kay noted that while acquiring Garrett, a Dallas native who hoped to join the Cowboys back in 2017, wouldn’t solve all the team’s problems, he would significantly enhance their defensive performance. He described Garrett as a generational talent who could help the Cowboys become championship contenders again.

Myles Garrett has consistently excelled, recording six straight seasons with double-digit sacks. In 2023, he achieved 42 tackles, 30 quarterback hits, 17 tackles for loss, 14 sacks, and 4 forced fumbles. This season, through seven games, he has 17 tackles, 9 quarterback hits, 7 tackles for loss, 4 sacks, and 2 forced fumbles.

Garrett’s current contract, valued at $125 million over five years, runs through 2026 and carries a cap hit of $20.1 million this season, which could be a concern for the salary-conscious Cowboys.

With the Browns sitting at 1-6, they may consider offers for their stars, including Garrett. Insider Albert Breer suggested that while the Browns might receive calls about Garrett, it’s unlikely they will trade him. However, other players like Za’Darius Smith or Jack Conklin could be more realistic targets.

Given the significant draft capital needed for Garrett and his hefty contract, the Cowboys seem an unlikely destination for the star pass rusher.
