The two-time defending Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs are addressing their most pressing need by trading for Tennessee Titans WR DeAndre Hopkins, as reported by ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
In exchange for the five-time Pro Bowler, the Chiefs will send a conditional fourth-round pick to the Titans.
Even though the Chiefs remain the last undefeated team in the league, they are struggling with depth at receiver due to injuries to Marquise Brown, Rashee Rice, and JuJu Smith-Schuster.
Two-time NFL MVP Patrick Mahomes had only two healthy receivers available before Wednesday’s trade: rookie Xavier Worthy and seven-year veteran Justin Watson.
So far this season, Hopkins has recorded 15 receptions for 173 yards and one touchdown, including three games with just one catch while playing for the 1-5 Titans. His best performance came in a 30-14 loss to the Green Bay Packers, where he caught six passes for 73 yards and a touchdown.
With Hopkins joining tight end Travis Kelce, Kansas City aims to establish a strong passing duo as they pursue the historic achievement of winning three consecutive Super Bowls.
The Chiefs’ next challenge is a road game against division rivals, the Las Vegas Raiders.
