Two former Auburn players were taken off of NFL active rosters on Tuesday. Montravius Adams, a nose tackle, is still with the Pittsburgh Steelers but is on injured reserve at the moment. However, linebacker Chandler Wooten was waived by the Carolina Panthers after playing a career-high 51 defensive snaps in Sunday’s game.
Adams suffered a knee injury during his first play in the Steelers’ 37-15 win over the New York Jets. Adams will miss the Steelers’ next four games at the very least because he was placed on injured reserve.
This season marks Adams’s fourth with the Steelers, during which he played in all seven games. Against the Atlanta Falcons in the first game of 2024, he recorded his first sack—his first since joining the Green Bay Packers in 2018.
Wooten’s release is part of a broader set of changes for the struggling 1-6 Panthers, who also cut linebacker Marquis Haynes and waived defensive tackle T.J. Smith, part of a defense that has allowed the most points in the league this season. Haynes was the starting quarterback in the team’s most recent 40-7 loss to the Washington Commanders, and Wooten recorded a career-high six tackles in his 20 games during the previous period.
The Panthers signed defensive end Jonathan Harris from the Miami Dolphins‘ practice squad and linebacker Cam Gill from the Detroit Lions‘ practice squad to bolster their active roster.
