In addition to their promotion, the 2nd XI clinched victory in the Division C Cup. Unfortunately, adverse weather conditions disrupted their bid for the FB Howell Trophy, leading to the postponement of the final. The team eagerly anticipates the rescheduled match in May.

All players had the opportunity to vote for their respective team’s Player of the Year and for the Clubman of the Year. The following awards were presented at the ceremony.

Jacob Dinger received the Robinson/Dargue Trophy as the First Team Player of the Year, with Ryan Nangle securing the title of First Team Top Bowler and Jacob Dinger claiming First Team Top Batsman.

The John Raw Trophy for Second Team Player of the Year was presented to Ashley Raine, who also earned the accolades of Second Team Top Batsman, while Shane Rowley took the honor of Second Team Top Bowler. Joe Knowles was honored with the Clubman of the Year Award, known as the Jack Watson Trophy.

Looking ahead to the 2024 season, the committee is already hard at work, engaging in activities such as applying for grant funding, fundraising efforts, equipment procurement, sponsor outreach, ground maintenance, and recruitment of new players, among various other tasks essential for sustaining a cricket club throughout the year.

A club spokesperson remarked, “There’s plenty to keep us occupied during the off-season, and we’re eager to continue our progress in the upcoming season. Our cricket club holds significant importance to our town, and the support of the community and local businesses in Shildon is indispensable to us.”

During a recent meeting, the committee appointed Greg Upton as the 1st team Captain, with Jacob Dinger taking on the role of Vice-Captain. Former captain Tom Wickins will also step in when necessary due to work commitments or holidays.

For the 2nd team, Andrew Clegg will serve a similar role, with Matthew Summerbell appointed as Captain and Dan Richardson as Vice-Captain.
